May Projects for Blue Fern Studios

Hello! Today I am sharing some fun new projects I made for Blue Fern Studios for May. I even got a chance to use the new Ombre Dreams paper!

"Sunshine after Rain" Card

I have used up nearly all of my Blue Fern Garden paper! In fact, when I made this card, I only had a mound of scraps to work with, so I decide to tear up some strips and make this layered design.

I used some small Spring Iris chipboard pieces that I cut up. I usually prime my chipboard with gesso, but I decided to use white chalk ink, and it created a dull effect when I added some green paint.

To treat this Petite Window, I used Martha Stewart crackle effect medium. Once it was dry, I added some light brown distress ink for a worn look to blend in with the rest of the card's tone.

  Altered Notebook

I like to keep a notebook handy so I can jot down any scrappy ideas I have throughout the day. I was in need of a new one, and wanted to add some Blue Fern chippies to this canvas journal to make sure it looked AWESOME!

I just ADORE the Petite Windows! This is another from the set. I used the same technique I used on the window I put on the card. This time I added a cherub button I had in my stash.

Here's a close up of the Wild Flourish Bundle. I used one of my favorite techniques where I prime the chipboard with a heavy coat of gesso, and sprinkle with various embossing powders, making sure to leaves some of the gesso untouched, then dry with a heat gun. Once dry, I add different shades of mists, saturating the chipboard, and drying again with a heat gun to dry the "pools" of mists.

"Sunshine" Layout

I am so in love with the Ombre Dreams paper! I love the array of colors! When I saw the blues and purples, I knew I wanted to use those first, and add some grey for a pretty vintage look.

This layout is based on the May sketch.

Here's a close up of the bottom left corner. I used some silver metallic paint and black chalk ink on the bird cage from the Veranda Cage Set.

I painted the title, "Sunshine," from The Optimist Word Set with gesso and Glimmer Glam.

The purple damask shape is a negative piece from the Damask Panel that I traced on the Joyce's Dream paper, then cut and sanded onto the panel piece.

I used gray chalk ink and several colors of Silks acrylic glaze paints on the Spring Frame. I covered up the flowers with dimensional flowers, and added some blue pearls to the scallops.

Thanks for checking out my projects today!

We have some absolutely beautiful scrapbook projects for you to see today !!

Oh my word! I am soooo in love with this kit! I have been yearning for Spring, and it was so much fun to play with this kit, Bohemian Spring, because it is full of color! Here's what I've made with the kit so far.

Faux Glass Acrylic Mini Album

When we were at Winter CHA, we saw an amazing album in the Clear Scraps booth, and that was the inspiration for this month's project add on. I had so much fun trying this "faux glass" technique using "Goosebumps" texture spray; I will definitely be use it again. I LOVE how it looks!

Here's a close up of what the texture looks like. I added some alcohol ink to the Goosebumps spray.

I used a couple of Memory Box dies for the frame.

Here's the back of the album.

And, this is the side view.

I have a video tutorial on how you can create this faux glass look, and do the embellishing using the Bohemian Spring collection here:

And, on May 10th, be sure to check out my Saturday tutorial on the Swirlydoos YouTube channel to see how I finished the inside of the mini album using more of this fabulous Bohemian Spring kit!

"Fly" Layout

This is my take on the monthly sketch:

This month, I am doing the monthly Swirlydoos feature, Anatomy of a Layout. This layout was created using ONLY the main kit, and I have step by step instructions with LOTS of pictures and closeups on the Swirlydoos forums here for the Bohemian Spring Anatomy:

This picture is of my cousin's daughter. She is a lovely young woman, and when I saw this picture she posted on Facebook, I immediately snagged it to use for this kit!

"Awesome Ends with Me" Layout

When I first saw this kit, I had so many ideas about some elegant, feminine pages, but I kept thinking about how a lot of the elements in this kit would be PERFECT for masculine layouts! So, I decided to host a "masculine" page challenge using this Bohemian Spring kit. All of the ladies on the design team have made masculine pages too, and they are amazing! If you are getting the kit this month, be sure to play along. The challenge will be posted on the Swirlydoos forums.

I used every product from the mediums add-on on this layout! I started out with the cardboard piece from the main kit, and tore off the first layer of it. I painted it with gesso, and while it was still wet, I sprinkled some of the dry Lindy's from the mister bottle on to it and gave the gesso another swipe. I added some black ink over it to give it the distressed look I was going for.

For the top layer, I used the Prima stencil. I applied both the Izink and Art Anthology Sorbet paint to the stencil with a sponge in random spots as if I were stippling it. Then I rubbed the sponge to BLEND the two media. The Izink is SUPER blendable!

The trim poking out from the bottom layers came in the embellishment add on. The chipboard circles are from my stash, from Blue Fern Studios. The cattails are die cuts from a fabulous Die~Namites die!

The picture is of my Owen, getting ready to go to school. He's awesome. :)

 "Living the Dream" Layout

I'm doing double duty for this layout, as it is my submission for the Swirlydoos Round Robin Challenge for week one. :) The twists are to use lots of flowers, and flower patterned paper, so I've done that. I also added some white flower trim for good measure. I have twelve flowers, and used two different pieces of pattered paper that have flowers.

Here's a close up so show some of the details.

The black layer was made with the Martha Stewart "Cherish" punch, and I used white thread to hand stitch around it, using the punch as a guide. It's time consuming, but I adore the look, and it's been a while since I added some real stitching to a project. I love the look of it.

The frames under the picture are from Sizzix. I couldn't decide which color I wanted to use, so I used them both. :) The other frame, the green bling circle (Hey, that rhymed!) is made with some bling from the embellishment add-on. I used a piece of Blue Fern Studios chipboard (nested circles) as a "template" for placing the bling.

To complete the look, I added some pearl trim from the embellishment add-on to the flower cluster. I also added some stenciling with a Heidi Swapp stencil and Wendi Vecchi black embossing paste inside the circle.

The picture is one a snapped of my Audra a few weeks ago. She's awesome. :)

I hope you enjoyed checking out my projects, and I can't wait for you to see what the other ladies have made!

You have until midnight, eastern time, on Tuesday 5/6 to complete the hop. Winners will be announced on the Swirlydoos Blog on Monday 5/7. In order to qualify to win here is what you need to do:
