I made this Kaisercraft recipe box that is featured in the project kit. I did use some of the paper from the main kit along with a few things from my stash including the Tim Holtz feet and curio knob.

"Eight" Layout

So this is a pic of my beautiful daughter on her eighth birthday. She is growing up way too fast. I try to take a pic within a few days of my kids' birthdays and make a layout with their age on it. I have a lot of catching up to do! Anyway this kit was perfect for the pic I chose. She was actually at the Butterfly Pavillion here in Denver.
I have or will have a step-by-step "anatomy" of this page on the Swirlydoos forums today. Check it out HERE.

"How Does your Garden Grow" Layout

And, this month, like every month, we have a sketch created for this kit by Beggahuna! Here is the sketch:

And here is my take on it:

I took some liberties with it, and went CRAZY with my punches! LOVE the effect with the array of whimsical colors of the Firefly paper. I did add a couple of things from my stash: the small blue roses, they are from the Encore Prima collection, and I used some black paper to cut out the flower vines with a new Memory Box die.

So, I hope enjoyed taking a peek at my projects. There are many more beautiful things to see on this hop!

You have until midnight, eastern time, on Thursday, 1/24 to complete the hop. Winners will be announced on the Swirlydoos Blog on Friday 1/25. In order to qualify to win here is what you need to do:

"Canvas of Me" Tutorial: Part 2 for Swirydoos

So,  I've been a great time trying to complete my Canvas of Me.  I think I have it all planned out, and here is the second canvas panel that I did:

I like to think of myself as a positive person, or at least I try to be optimistic about things. I get in negative ruts sometimes, but I am hopeful that good things will always happen, and I wanted to convey this on my canvas because I think it's central to who I am and how I am able to get through the day, so I came up with the statement: "I have dreams." Once I had this phrase as a starting point, the canvas came very easy to me: I wanted a dreamy-like background, so I used blue media and made layers. You can see exactly how I did it on this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8D-TXgm8nw

I love this resin mask, and it just fits with the dreamy idea, along with the gears.

So. it's pretty simple, and I can't wait to finish this up!

Thanks for looking!

"Canvas of Me" Tutorial for Swirlydoos

Hi all. I'm super excited to share a project that I am just getting started on! It's a new year, and I always say that I am going to scrap myself every year or work on a "Book of Me", but I never do it. So this year, I thought I'd try something else to see if I would actually commit to doing a project just about myself, and just do a "Canvas of Me"! The only reason that I am even getting started on this is because I've had this idea brewing in my head for a while, and while browsing at Michaels, it HIT me: just do a canvas, and keep it simple to describe yourself. Instead of focusing on journaling and straining to come up with topics, use the embellishments and colors to symbolize who I am.

So, here is the first part of my canvas, which is a four inch square canvas panel that I will add to a larger canvas, along with a few more little squares.
To see how I made this tiny canvas, watch this video: CLICK HERE.

Let me know what you think, and thanks for reading/watching!

All About Owen

Today, my oldest turns 10. It's so hard to believe. Time really flies. I love him so much, but it's really hard to be happy on this day because nothing goes how a typical child's birthday should be. He doesn't acknowledge that this is his special day, so there is no child anticipation and joy to share with him. He wouldn't want to have a house full of people because they are too loud and invade his space, so there won't be a party. We will have a cake, but he doesn't eat solid foods, so he won't eat any. He cries whenever we sing Happy Birthday, so we don't. We will buy him gifts, but he won't open them or even care what they are. We are going on an outing today, and will try not to be terribly disappointed if he has a meltdown and have to leave right away. We will try to concentrate on all of the progress he has made this last year, and we do have some really awesome things to be grateful for: Owen will now feed himself (at school only), he took a drink from a cup before Christmas break, and he has been playing on the playground unassisted at school. He also used his communication device appropriately one time. Not what you typically think of as progress or things to get excited about when your child turns 10, but there is nothing typical about Owen. We've learned not to expect miracles, but to never underestimate what he can do. We measure success with a microscope, and expect two steps back for every forward one taken. I love him more than words can every adequately express.

Here are some layouts that made of Owen this past year. Most of the pics are older, and I have scrapped most of them more than once. It's difficult to get a good pic of him, so I treasure the ones that I can get.

Happy Birthday, Owen!

Flourish with a Bling January Challenge!!!!

Hello! This month it's my turn to host the monthly challenge at  Flourish with a Bling, and this is what I came up with: Black and White Plus One. And, it’s EXACTLY what is sounds like- create a project using black and white, plus another color of your choice. And, we aren’t going to be picky about it: for example, if you use blue, you can have as many shades of blue as you wish. And, you can have as much of, or as little of each color as you wish! Also, if  a light cream goes better than white for your project, that’s okay too.
So, here is your inspiration that we have prepared for you this month:
Here is mine that I created using blue, and two Jessie flourishes in black:
I also used the fabulous Bo Bunny Enchanted papers that I have been hoarding!

And some of my fellow DT mates were kind enough to also create some inspirational examples:
Here is a soft elegant layout by Sandi Smith using yellow as her "plus one":

And, another beauty by Sonia Thomason who used hints of green as her "plus one"

The fabulous Kate McCulloch with her colorful bright layouts using aqua:

And, Miss Donna O'Leary gave us this gem with a dash of dark blue:

So, if you'd like to win a fabulous prize pack like this:

Here's what'cha gotta do:
For a chance to win an awesome prize pack, upload your project by midnight, January 31st in the FWAB gallery in the January challenge album, following these guidelines:
1. Follow the challenge colors: black, white, plue any ONE color of your choice. (Different shades of that color are okay.)
2. Use at least ONE Flourish with a Bling product.
3. You can create any kind of project you like: layout, card, OTP
4. You can enter as many times as you wish.
We can’t wait to see what you create!
